TRAINING
At White Star Care, we prioritize the continuous professional development of our staff through regular training and education. We understand the importance of staying updated with the latest industry practices and advancements to provide the highest standard of care. Our commitment to ongoing training ensures that our team remains skilled, knowledgeable, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of our clients.
Manual Handling
Carers are responsible for assisting individuals with mobility issues, disabilities, or frailty. Proper manual handling techniques ensure the safety and well-being of the clients. They will learn how to provide support and assistance while maintaining the client's comfort and dignity. This reduces the likelihood of accidents, falls, or injuries to the clients during transfers or movements.

The most common equipment that may be used with clients are:

-
Hoist (see image): This transfers the client from bed to chair and vice versa. Requires two carers.
-
Sara Stedy Transfer Aid: Enables a single carer to assist a person to perform a sit-to-stand movement from one place to another.
-
Wheeled commode chair: The front wheels on a wheeled commode should swivel and often all four wheels will swivel to ease pushing and steering by a caregiver

Training carers about manual handling is essential for ensuring their safety, promoting client well-being, complying with legal requirements, increasing efficiency, delivering high-quality care, and improving overall job satisfaction. At White Star Care, we prioritise the health and safety of both our carers and the individuals they care for.
Infection Control
PPE plays a vital role in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases in healthcare and caregiving settings. Training care staff about PPE ensures they understand the importance of using appropriate protective measures to minimize the risk of spreading infections. This includes wearing gloves, masks, gowns, face shields, or other necessary equipment to create a barrier between themselves and potentially infectious materials.

Care staff may come into contact with various hazards, such as biological fluids, viruses (COVID-19), chemicals, or sharp objects, while providing care. Training on PPE ensures they know how to select, use, and dispose of the appropriate protective equipment for different situations. By wearing PPE correctly, care staff can safeguard themselves from potential harm, reducing the risk of exposure to harmful substances or injuries.
First Aid & CPR
Being trained in First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is of utmost importance for caregivers for many reasons.

You may encounter emergencies or critical situations where quick action is vital. First Aid and CPR training equip you with the knowledge and skills to provide immediate care before professional medical help arrives. A prompt response can significantly improve the chances of a positive outcome for the individual in need.

Training in First Aid and CPR builds confidence in carers. Knowing that they are prepared to handle emergencies allows them to carry out their responsibilities with a sense of assurance and calmness. This preparedness translates into better decision-making during stressful situations.
